Many has been said about Christopher Wallace rap talent and public persona, but his personal life was always a relative mystery to the public eye. After his tragic shooting back in 97, he has become a legend. For those of us who were hard core hip-hop heads back then, and remember the day he passed away, when the news that there was a biographical film about his life, we were excited.
But as the days were closing in to the premier of the film and news and disputes regarding the portrayal of the story, this blogger started to doubt if the filmmakers were doing the legend's life any justice.
Well I was able, at last, to see the flick (don't ask how, big ups to my man Kingstar!) and I was asked to write down a review... and before I give my opinion I just want to clarify that I am both a Hip-Hop Head and a Movie head and my review is a bit of both.
The Movie starts pretty nicely, the depiction of Biggie's early life and the environment that surrounded him is actually a very good start, and all around you see that the movie producers did a good job setting the correct ambiance for the movie all the way through. It is a good movie to watch and to say it in pachuco "Se deja ver", but, someone must brake it to you right now... it MIGHT dissapoint you a bit. If you are like me, and try to question how the movie is portrayed and how accurate the story is depicted, you can't help but question how Puffy (an executive producer of the movie) or Faith are displayed... You kinda get the feeling that in a way, the movie tried a bit hard to make then look good... well but that is really not the question of this review. the performances of the actors were decent, but nothing spectacular here... I kept reading about how other critics said that Jamal Woolard played Biggie quite nicely but to be all honest... I didn't feel it, he was good for his first movie, but as a Biggie fan I think the producers could have at least casted a real actor for the part. as for the rest of the cast they do a good job on most ocations but my definite pet peeve on this movie is Anthony Mackie's performance as 2pac, I mean it was down right horrible, He lacked the magnetism, the charisma and being a REAL actor it was really appalling that the non actor Woolard stole the scened every single time they were on together... to summarize Mackie's performance, it was an extension of the Papa Doc character he played at 8 mile. The movie is fun, it covers some aspects of Biggie's life that most people don't know... If you are fan, it's a must see definetely, if you don't know Biggie you might not like the film that much, I liked it, and thought it could've been better, WAY better, I just hope that if somebody releases or plans to do the biopic for 2pac, they do a better job... and for Pete sake, keep Anthony Mackie's untalented ass away from the project!

I read that during the auditions when Jamal Woolard entered the room Ms.Wallace said: "That's my son right there",I guess that's the reason him playing Biggie!
