I know, I know... "Wtf Chaz? Are you insane? who gives a fuck?!" Well, mr.I-keep-it-real... I DO! DEAL WITH IT! C'mon, don't front... like I was always as cool as I am today, sad to say I wasn't, ask around...
I have to confess, I really digged those two cats when I was young... YES, I SAID IT! I am a bit embarrased to, but fuck it, we all did like corny shit while growing up (and while we are at this opening up, I also thought Snow was cool, but that's another post, Big up to MC Shan and Jim Carrey!)... but I am willing to defend my interest of actually knowing where these two ill-fated-hip-hop-child-stars-BETA-versions-of-Bow-Wow are nowadays because eventhough they had a team of ghostwritters behind them I, the self-proclaimed Hip-Hop Geek, the Cesar Luis Menotti of Costa Rican Hip-Hop will have to swallow some pride and be the first one to admit that I kinda miss the era of Hip-Hop Kris-Kross where in... Hell THEY made Jermain Dupri who he is today.
And be serious, most of the beats they had were dope and I don't care if you hate KK, you have to give it up for their beats... if still not convinced imagine for a second your favorite emcee spitting some sixteens to the beat of "Alright"... But I digress... as it seems, and according to Wikipedia the krossed out duo (kinda of a misfortunate name considering the facts that most of hip-hop's collective memory have forgotten them, and have in some sort KROSSED THEM OUT as a mere joke in the culture's history) is planning to individually release some new music, and to be frank... I would check it out, but I have to confess I would do it like I checked for the Harold and Kumar movies just to see Doogie Howser play himself as a crackhead. I just hope that they do the music not taking themselves too seriously and being grateful to the fact that people remember them and are willing to hear what they have to say... I imagine Mac Daddy or Daddy Mack in their room in their home playing darts with Posters of Lil Bow Wow.
Well with that little ramble I would like to refresh some memories here are some videos of the forgotten duo, with some tracks I still like (but won't admit it before five or six beers)... hear the music, go ahead, I DARE YOU not to bob your head... if you are too embarassed to be caught doing so, wait til noone's around... Feel free to hate and comment against them... actually I encourage you to come forward with an opinion... but before you bust my chops on this, just look at it this way, I could've said something far more outrageous and admitting to like something that no self-respecting sober human being in their right minds would...
1- "Jump"... This basically put the kids in the map, and if you are say 26 or 24 years old chances are at some point in your life... you at least ONCE, put your jeans backwards after this shit came out
2- "I'm Real" well, they weren't and we all know it, but I have to admit this was the first rap song I memorized word by word... highlight that part where they get away with spelling D-I-C-K backwards
3- "Alright" Supercat is dope, Lowriders are dope, and the beat is super mellow... Oh, the memories of the bumps and grinds I got thanks to this song when I was in seventh grade dances in El Maria Auxiliadora back in the day when it was still an all-girl school... Thank you Kris Kross and Jermain Dupri... you pretty much gave me blue balls at age 12, assholes!
4- "Live and Die For Hip Hop" ok, all jokes a side I am willing to arguewith all you purist reading this, but in my top ten favorite hip hop videos THIS has to be there somewhere between 4 and 8 on the ranking... I liked it when it came out, although it outcasted me from some of my hardcore-hiphop-fans-friends (they were big on Cypress Hill at the moment) Also, tell me that is not perhaps the illest beat JD ever made... also, correct me if I'm wrong but I read on Wikipedia that the girl singing the hook is Aaliyah, she is not shown in the video but it kinda sounds like her
Where tha f*** is Kris Kross?
